Since it’s launch at the start of 2015 Spill The Milk has consistently delivered a diversity of artists to please almost any taste with Wookie providing garage throwbacks, Ben Pearce indulging his love of disco as part of his Sextape Tour, and Oneman delivering some technical flair being just a sample of the goodness Spill the Milk has brought to Southampton. The continuation of such reputable bookings into the summer months with the likes of Lorenzo, Campbell and Bicep is keeping Spill The Milk and Junk on top of their game.
Looking from the end of April into May and beyond the London Road club has an absolutely packed calender. Couple this with the team’s new monthly discount wristband initiative and you’ve hardly got any excuse not to get involved. Here’s a rundown to get you up to speed and ensure that you don’t miss out.
This summer Junk Department are heading to Reykjavik to host their own stage at Secret Solstice Festival, but not before they’ve brought a taste of the festival to Southampton. On 2nd May Junk will play host to Detroit Swindle for the official Secret Solstice warm up. Hailing from the Netherlands, Detroit Swindle combine energetic house sets with a devilish sense of humour, the perfect embodyment of Junk’s motto: ‘Serious music, not taken at all seriously…’
Spill The Milk resumes the following week on 9th May with Moxie. Playing a fine balancing act between the underground and mainstream across her varied radio career, Moxie has hosted spots on NTS, Kiss, and Rinse. There’s no question of Moxie’s expertise on the decks when she can boast of six appearances playing Fabric’s mainroom just last year alone.
On 16th May Chris Lorenzo returns for his second appearance in the Spill The Milk series. Having launched the weekly Saturday night in style back in January, it’s no surprise that the Junk team want Chris back behind the decks again. Notoriously adept in the studio, Chris Lorenzo is one half of Cause & Effect and boasts production credits on numerous other artists’ records; arguably the man is best known for his work on many of Hannah Wants’ biggest tracks, including her 2015 single Rhymes.
Are you heading to Common People, the latest venture from the Bestival Team? If so, you’ll be pleased to know that Junk have got your after hours plans sorted with a festival afterparty on the Saturday 23rd May headlined by Secretsundaze. ‘Common People after Dark‘ will see Giles Smith & James Priestly, the two men responsible for making Secretsundaze London’s best known Sunday daytime-party possible. The pair continue to impress with the Secretsundaze brand going strong for over a decade now, and their record label establishing itself as a go-to outlet for high-end house and techno.
30th May sees Miguel Campbell enter into Junk’s booth. Signing to Hot Creations in 2010 just as the record label had its breakthrough, Campbell has had a prolific career ever since. The Leeds based DJ and producer has featured tracks on a number of the Hot Natured compilations and recently provided remix services for Basement Jaxx.
