UK grime artist Skepta will be heading to Switch Southampton on Friday 16th May 2015. He’ll be supported by local artists K1R3Y, Foor, FWD MTN, and Lewis Whitlock. Tickets go on sale this Friday (8th May). £8 Early Birds, £10 Standard, £15 for VIP. It’s set to be a roadblock. Insert “shutdown” reference here.
Spitting on hip-hop beats before he ever entered the booth in grime circles, Skepta unleashed his rapid flow in the mid 2000s. As the white label era shifted into flash video and digital downloads, he built a sizeable fan base.

A decade into his MC career, Skepta is bringing his worldview to a global audience in undiluted form. His fourth album Konnichawa is the sum total so far and the evolution of everything so far and, with a local and international slew of partners in 2015, the takeover is imminent.

Produced by Skepta and Ragz Originale, “Shutdown” arrived online at the start of March to widespread acclaim, marking a week which saw the north London MC and producer join Kanye West on stage at both the Brit Awards (for the infamous debut performance of ‘All Day’), and a spontaneous full live show at London’s Koko. ‘Shutdown’ has since racked up well over two million Soundcloud plays.

Skepta recently shared the video for ‘Shutdown’. The clip was directed by FKA Twigs collaborator Grace LaDoja, while the song features a sample of a viewer responding to the MC’s appearance at the 2015 BRIT Awards with Kanye West, calling it “aggressive” and “intimidating”.
