With a year that has seen the Junk camp take a full 360 along its ever-expanding path, NYE 2014 finds the club well and truly back on its underground tracks. To mark the occasion we have called upon a true kindred spirit who sums up everything we are about; deep, dark, melodic and mischievously groovy – Matthias Tanzmann.
A true tech-house hero of unparalleled proportions, Tanzmann has pioneered the German underground sound for well over two decades, whether via his own ground breaking solo productions, awe inspiring DJ sets or as part of the world concurring Better Lost Than Stupid trio with David Squillace and Desolat founder Martin Buttrich.
Employing an acutely experimental edge to everything he gets his mits on, Tanzmann’s expertise lies in his uncanny ability to create tracks steeped in contoured groove, retaining that all important dance-floor friendly characteristic, yet never losing one atom of envelope pushing integrity. This killer combination precedes an intense potency to each and every one of his tracks; setting them apart as truly INTERESTING pieces of music – not something you get to say about much dance music these days! On top of that he’s obviously one heck of a DJ, holding down an infamous residency at CircoLoco’s DC-10 nosh-up, touring every corner of the club scene throughout his industrious career and creating one of the finest Fabric CDs to have graced the legendary series.
Equally, few labels have established themselves as solidly and definitively as Matthias Tanzmann’s Moon Harbour. Since the turn of the millennium it has been a bastion of unparalleled deep and tech house quality, not moving with the times, but defining them well ahead of any bogus trend. Through a carefully curated series of EPs and LPs, the label has fomented its own close-knit family, constantly expanding and contracting with careful consideration.
One such member of that family is East End Dubs, a young cockney starting to make a pretty serious name for himself in all the right circles. Having spent donkeys years behind the scenes as an engineer, the Londoner has recently reassigned his skills into the production of his very own base centric jams, coming to everyone’s attention with a stellar string of vinyl releases on his own eponymous label. Now a massive part of the Sankeys roster the east enders tracks have been regularly causing carnage throughout some of the biggest parties in the continent, with big support from the likes of Sub-Ann, tINI and Hector.
Joining them will be a man returning for his second successive Junk NYE showdown, Sankey’s favourite Darius Syrossian. With adjectives such as ‘overlooked’ or ‘underrated’ formally plonked upon his shoulders; a raft of prime jackin’ dancefloor heat for the likes of Get Physical, Hot Creations and of course Steve Lawlers own VIVa Music have found him now firmly in the spotlight. With TRUE.HOUSE.MUSIC emblazoned across his well-groomed chest, Syrossian is a self-imposed torchbearer for all that it is good and true in the world of deep house decorum, clearly stating he is in it for one thing and one thing only: music. And anyone who isn’t can quite frankly do one.
Luca Pilato, Jordan Mckinlay, Rhymos, Jody Hannan, Carlington, Ronnie Spiteri, Matt Kelly, Jay Ahmed, Moda Soul will all be representing their home club on the night.
PS if you weren’t aware already, Eats Everything will be going back to back with James Zabiela on Saturday 27th December.
