Junk to mark their return to Southampton with Joy Orbison, Levon Vincent, Miguel Campbell, Benoit & Sergio

After teasing fans with a cryptic image via their Facebook page, whilst building further anticipation with a countdown on their website, Junk Department have announced that their award wining club, JUNK, (more recently known as TRiPP), is to reopen at its London Road site in Southampton, this September. The return of JUNK is heralded by a two-part launch event on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th September, the first night featuring Joy Orbison, Levon Vincent, Luca Pilato and Jordan McKinlay, while on the second night the club will play host to Miguel Campbell, Benoit & Sergio (Live), Jody Hannan, Carlington and Rhymos, who has incidentally put together SOTONIGHT’s most recent podcast.

JUNK accompanied their announcement with the statement, “You asked, we listened. It’s Back.”

Overhauling the club with a re-brand only shortly after securing DJ Mag’s award for the nation’s best small club, was a decision met with mixed reactions earlier this year, as fans were unsure of the club’s intentions under its new alias. Many have been keen to see the club reinstate its original identity, and will likely be excited to hear that the brand has listened to their feedback and are intent to deliver the high quality selection of House, Techno and underground sounds that they have come to expect.

Part 1 of the Opening Weekender kicks off with Joy Orbison and Levon Vincent. Junk have managed to track down the elusive London based Joy Orbison and lure him out of hiding for another appearance at the club, having been a notable part of Junk’s autumn listings last year, in November. Whether he’s producing alone or with like-minded Boddika, expectations are consistently high for Orbison’s releases, ever since his phenomenal debut, ‘Hyph Mngo’. Owner of Novel Sound, Levon Vincent is similarly influential with his output, the majority of his sought-after material being released only on vinyl. A set at Junk presents another rare treat.

Part 2 on Saturday sees the likes of Miguel Campbell and Benoit & Sergio grace the club’s sound-system. Miguel Campbell has been signed to Hot Creations since 2010, a label needing little to no introduction thanks to its regular praise as the most visionary and exciting label in underground music right now. Campbell’s recent vocal laden productions have seen great support, and others may recognize him as one half of the disco tinged two-piece, MAM. Benoit & Sergio have been receiving critical acclaim for their polished live act, including charting in Resident Advisor’s Top 10 Live Acts in 2011, and being titled iTunes’ Breakthrough Electronic Artists of The Year, the very same year. Fast-forward to 2014, and the duo are putting the finishing touches to their debut album, slated for release later this year.

Tickets for the Junk Launch parts 1 and 2 are available individually, whilst a limited run of weekender tickets for both days are also available, priced at £20.
