The Chemical Brothers and many more announced for Bestival’s Summer of Love (2015)

Rod da Bank has big plans for the South Coast this year with the return of his mainstay Isle of White event, Bestival, and the launch of his new Southampton based venture, Common People. The four day festival has been growing exponentially since its inception back in 2004. This year’s lineup will see The Chemical Brothers mainstage on Saturday night and UK exclusive performances from Duran Duran, The Jacksons, and Underworld, who will be headlining the Big Top tent on the festival’s opening night.

Known for its inspired creativity and rich design across 25 unique stages Bestival recently unveiled this year’s theme, The Summer of Love, hoping to evoke the classic festival spirit. Described as an ‘amorous adventure’ Bestival will return to Robin Hill on the Isle of White on September 10th-13th.

Ambitious to rekindle the vibe of 60s with his modern Summer of Love, festival curator Rob da Bank explained:

We’re taking it right back to our roots for the 12th annual Bestival. It’s also the 20th birthday of the club where it all started – Sunday Best, and that club and our beloved Bestival were founded on some pretty simple aims – listen to amazing music, make new friends, have fun, and maybe stay up all night. Two decades later we’re rigidly sticking to those principles, and this edition of Bestival, with its Summer of Love theme, is all about one huge musical, well, orgy… So, returning friends the Chemical Brothers rave alongside iconic popstars Duran Duran and The Jacksons, and some of my favourite modern musical mavericks – Tame Impala, Flying Lotus and Jungle – jump in bed together… and this is just the start of the party… Watch this space and feel the love!

Heading up this year’s lineup, The Chemical Brothers and Underworld are both likely to excite in equal measure. The Chemical Brothers are best known as the Manchester electronic duo responsible for bringing the big beat genre to the attention of the masses. Underworld saw themselves achieve cult status in 1996 as their tracks Born Slippy.NUXX and Dark & Long, were immortalized in Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting. Underworld would team up with Boyle again in 2012 for their biggest project to date, directing the soundtrack for the Olympic Opening Ceremony. Having layed low in recent years but for a few contributions to film scores and sountracks, The Chemical Brothers’ reappearance on the festival circuit this year coincides with the reveal of a new album slated for release this year. The Chemical Brothers are renowned as one of the world’s finest live electronic acts and are known for incorporating numerous guest vocalists in their performances, so fans could potentially be in for a few pleasant surprises. Underworld and The Chemical Brothers are a choice pairing of authentic electronic acts, worthy of headline status.

Joining them on the bill for a hint of nostalgia are 80s rockers Duran Duran, and the world’s most famous musical family, The Jacksons. Duran Duran have recently been putting the finishing touches to their new album with Mark Ronson, Nile Rodgers and Mr. Hudson. Whilst Jungle having made an impressive debut last year with their self titled debut album are also likely to draw attention.

Also atop the lineup is experimental producer Flying Lotus. Based in San Francisco, Flying Lotus is at the forefront of avant-garde hip-hop, releasing most consistently through Warp records, home to the likes of Squarepusher and Aphex Twin, the latter recognizable for far more than just his recent Grammy.

Also among the line up are the increasingly popular ladies of the moment, Annie Mac and Hannah Wants. Bestival’s roster of DJs also features chart favorites Duke Dumont, Gorgon City, and Redlight, whilst those with more eclectic tastes will likely be pleased to see Seth Troxler, Four Tet, Ben UFO, Jackmaster and Joy Orbison joining them on the bill.
