Common People is the latest venture from Bestival’s curator, Rob da Bank. DJ and bigbeat icon Fatboy Slim has been announced to headline the Saturday of the two-day metropolitan festival. On Sunday festival goers have live performances from Clean Bandit and another special headline guest to look forward to. Presale tickets have been on sale since this morning, with general release opening tomorrow.
Clean Bandit are responsible for the third biggest tune of 2014, Rather Be, which shifted over a million copies. The ensemble from Cambridge are proving repeatedly popular in the charts with their unique brand of baroque pop. Hailing from Southampton, Band of Skulls are a welcome addition to the lineup, and two piece garage punk duo Slaves have been attracting attention recently, making their way onto numerous sound of 2015 lists.
Rob da Bank explained his excitement for the venture:
It’s been a long time coming to launch a new show from the Bestival family. We thought long and hard before deciding to base our new show in Southampton… I played my first ever DJ gig in Southampton when I was 16, so this is a real home coming for me.
Rob will be showing his love for the Southampton crowd and will be taking to the decks during the weekend alongside numerous other DJs. Atop the offering are the likes of London’s deep house giants Dusky, and tech house connoisseurs Dense & Pika. The dance tents will be presided over by Southampton’s own mainstay promoters, Junk Department and Switch, on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
In addition to all this musical talent Common People also has plenty of other attractions to offer, compiled by its acclaimed creative team who promise to ‘transform the common into a world of wonder’. Among the selection you can expect workout sessions from Mr Motivator, The People’s Front Room psychedelic 19th century salon, and vintage vibes at The Day of the Dead Margarita Lounge Bar.
A VIP experience is also on offer providing fast-track festival entry, an exclusive Hospitality Bar and many other benfits.
