After the cancellation of an initial Common People pre-party scheduled for earlier this month at Southampton University Student’s Union (SUSU) featuring Rob da Bank, Cholombian, and Soul 45, Switch Southampton have taken up the baton as hosts for Common People’s Southampton pre-party. Scheduled for Saturday 9th May, two weeks prior to the debut of Southampton’s brand new two day music festival, the pre-party will see the forerunners of contemporary UK techno Dense & Pika, take to the booth in Switch along with High Tide’s DJ, and ThemAgen to give Southampton a little taste of what to expect from Rob da Bank’s latest festival venture.
Dense & Pika Consisting of Alex Jones and Chris Spero, otherwise known as Glimpse, the duo have originally keeping their identities a mystery. The pair benefit from Chris’ production expertise from under his Glimpse moniker while Alex provides an astute musical knowledge from his part ownership of Hypercolour Recordings. The success of their production has seen them release tracks on Scuba’s own Hotflush records and techno greats, Drumcode.
The High Tide DJs are veterans of the Southampton circuit having brought underground parties to the solent and Southampton’s mainland for well over a decade. A perfect complement to the experience of the High Tide DJs, Them Agen have become a recent staple at numerous Southampton parties delivering a stylish blend of deep and tech house. Dense & Pika be performing at Common People on the Saturday whilst the High Tide djs and Them Agen are billed to play at the big top tent on the Sunday.
