There are several little creative groups springing up around Southampton and it’s about time we started giving them some attention. Some are throwing parties, some are making and releasing music, and some are doing both! It’d be silly not to start giving them some air time, for all we know these guys could be the next big thing … everyone starts somewhere.

The creative groups in question here are The Smoker’s Club and The 3ilton Club. They’re both recent incarnations and are thus throwing a kind of joint launch party featuring a whole host of local DJs and friends, some of whom are involved with the projects themselves. The chances are that if you went out to stuff like the Bang Bang or CULT nights earlier in the year then you will have, at least in passing, seen some of these names:

Matt Kelly
Jackuzé (Jack Hughes)
Chris Golding
BST Audio-line
South Royston

Indeed, you may have even seen some of those names outside the realms of Southampton. South Royston have been featured some pretty large YouTube channels and have bookings other cities.

To get a feel for some of the music on show, take a listen to this podcast recorded by Chris Golding for The Smoker’s Club:

There’s actually a third creative group involved here: Swoon will be hosting “The Shed” (that’s room two under normal circumstances). Swoon are another Southampton-based collective on a mission to seek out and promote (and indeed produce) forward thinking music. Their excellent blog showcases all things musical from Southampton and beyond. Posts flick between glances at undiscovered producers to commentary on BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes. Just recently they started up a podcast series, take a listen:

Swoon’s full lineup is as follows:

Gridline (Francis Lee)
Matt Manser
Cult DJ’s

They’ll be streaming live on the interwebs, so keep an eye out on the event page for listening links.
