Raygun Youth is returning to The Cellar on the 1st of November and will be making it the, dare I say, Spectrasoul Cellar…

In all seriousness though, this is an ideal line-up for a venue that has its history in soul music with Spectrasoul and liquid legend Eveson both playing. Alongside them, adding a darker edge to the night will be MC Codebreaker and Southampton born and bred duo Gerra & Stone.

Spectrasoul’s debut album released last year “Delay No More” lit up not only the drum and bass world but a large portion of the wider electronic music scene. It showcased the duo’s deep and profoundly musical side, exploring tempos and rhythms outside of the usual drum and bass roller. However, they also showcased their darker atmospheres and basslines, it is this coherent blend of sounds and textures that has made them the scene giants they are today. Their latest release “Play The Fool / Bugsy” is due for release on Shogun Audio this week and another two tracks are forthcoming on Shogun’s Way Of The Warrior 2 LP.

Originally an artist who designed artwork for such labels as Exit Records and Metalheadz, Eveson burst onto the music scene with his own production in 2006. The rolling liquid sound that Eveson is renowned for was the most exciting DnB to be a part of at that time, with people such as the pioneering Alix Perez pushing a similar vibe. Eveson’s sound has the perfect balance between retaining that wonderful old school drum and bass vibe that we all know and love and pushing the boundaries with the powerful, new aesthetics of the modern liquid scene. His talent lead him to release on oldskool heavyweights such as V Recordings and new forward looking labels such as Critical and ShogunLTD.

On hosting duties for the night is MC Codebreaker who has been adding atmosphere and energy at drum and bass nights for years. He has also featured as a vocalist on many a drum and bass track collaborating with the likes of Xtrah, Ulterior Motive and Rido.  Even if you were to take away his eloquent linguistic skills and know-how of when to let the music breathe, the pure weight and energy behind his voice would be enough. Codebreaker is one of those few MC’s who has all of these traits and it is something that only the few are graced with.

Gerra and Stone are a gifted duo hailing from Southampton. They have had a string of recent prestigious releases with their tune Droneheads released on Proximity Recordings going down as a personal favourite drum and bass roller. More recently their 10” on Dispatch Recordings Back Hand/Tenfold was a banger and if Ant TC1 signed them you know these guys are going far.
