Paul Woolford aka Special Request will be visiting Southampton thanks to the newly established Howl at the Moon clubnight that launched in January 2014 at The Voodoo Lounge with Route 94. Howl at the Moon will return to their launch venue on the 29th March 2014, bringing Paul Woolford, Eli & Fur, and a selection of Southampton’s finest to the stage. Tickets are on sale now, priced at an entirely reasonable £8.

Eight years since the massive success of “Erotic Discourse“, Paul Woolford has rebooted his career. Most recently he’s shown an affinity with a new wave of UK DJs and producers, topping off a string of bass-heavy tracks with the uplifting piano house of “Untitled,” one of 2013’s biggest summer jams. The last year or so has seen the 38 year old embark on something of a renaissance period. Under his own name, he released “Untitled“, the piano house banger that dropped on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings that has now been re-released by Sony imprint Relentless Records. If you’ve crossed the threshold of a club/house party/Topman outlet this year, you’ve heard “Untitled”, a proper feel-good jam that epitomises the spirit of the current house music boom.

But you’ll have also heard Woolford operating under a different alias too … Special Request is the moniker he created in order to put out 12″ singles dedicated to warehouse rave music; tough, bouldering constructions powered by low end frequencies and shot through with raw breakbeats or juggernaut kick drums. Signed to London club Fabric’s in-house Houndstooth label, the debut Special Request album, “Soul Music“, collected all of the cult releases and the results were astonishingly impactful. In early 2012, the slam of drum breaks felt intoxicating, radical even; a couple of years later, it’s fast becoming the sound du jour, typified by producers like Tessela.

Following a series of excellent tunes, including “Nightmares”, which topped the XLR8R download chart and was supported by the likes of Monki, Russ Chimes and Rudimental, London’s freshest sounding producer duo Eli & Fur released their mesmerizing “Illusions” EP in July 2013 with standout track “You’re So High”, which has since picked up a tasty remix from Ejeca.

Bursting on to the scene in 2012, Eli & Fur have been perfecting a sound built around infectious, electronic melodies and seductive vocal lines. One can certainly draw parallels between Eli & Fur’s sounds to those of Maya Jane Coles, with tracks built around a pumping 4/4 beats and undeniably danceable basslines. Indeed, the duo are frequently billed alongside Coles as well as the likes of Maceo Plex, Scuba, and others.

As mentioned, support on the night will come from a selection of Southampton’s finest. Namely: Zha, South Royston, Lewis Whitlock, and more. Full lineup details announced soon.
