Dubstep pioneer, lecturer, bass poet,  author, a PhD on the use of sound in warfare…its fair to say that Hyperdub boss Kode9 doesn’t stand still for long! As one of the spearheads of the original wave of dubstep, he incorporated the elements of world music, jungle, funk and breaks from his early gigs with the emerging darker sounds of London to create a unique sound that was regularly heard at FWD>>. Launching Hyperdub in 2004, Kode9 continued this wave of innovation, releasing artists as diverse as Burial, FlyLo, Samiyam, Joker and Martyn to name a few.

Rinse are bringing Kode9 to Junk to launch Rinse:22-Kode9 as part of their ongoing mix series. Describing the mix as representative of his new style, a quick look down the tracklisting reveals cuts by DJ Rashad, Cashmere Cat, Addison Groove and more, suggesting you won’t be standing still either!

Joining Kode9 is long standing Rinse host Scratcha DVA who, having graduated from the Grimey Breakfast Show, now hosts the eclectic Hyperdub Show once a month. Also on the bill is Faze Miyake who will be dropping his signature brand of bass-heavy grime ahead of his forthcoming release, also on Rinse.

If the 10th of May is too long to wait, Kode9’s SoundCloud features over 20 classic mixes to whet your appetite.

Rinse:22-Kode9 is out 20th May on Rinse.
