Beardyman is heading to Southampton on the 22nd November for what promises to be an awesome show at the newly reopened RoXX. Doors will be at 20:00 and the gig will run through till about midnight, at which point your ticket will gain you entry to Orange Rooms (just around the corner) for an after-party.
Beardyman (real name Darren Foreman) is a solo performer who expertly mixes beatboxing, mimic, live looping and comedy to produce something truly unique in the electronic music scene.

His gigs encourage audience participation and range from small comic shows like the one below from the Edinburgh Festival in 2009, to his Beardytron 5000 tour earlier this year.
For an example of his comedic taste skip to 23:00 in the video above for a live mix of Aphex Twin getting attacked by bumble bees.
Beardyman is the polar opposite of the press play DJ, everything he performs is mixed from the ground up, right there on the stage, with the samples generated live using only his voice. His tracks are built up layer by layer as he adds more samples, and every now and then he calls for inspirational heckles from the crowd, making every performance unique.
His more musical sets are a near continuous mix of a wide range of genres, from his staple beatboxing which grows to dubstep, trance, techno and anything else he feels like doing. The Beardytron 5000 Mk2 is the instrument Beardyman built for most of his recent shows. Created using custom software and a blend of top of the range hardware, and three years in the making, it’s a truly impressive demonstration of his dedication to his art. The video below is of his (uncharacteristically calm) TED talk which describes some of the background to how it was constructed.
From the second he bounds onstage his presence and command of the crowd is fantastic, and it only increases from there, I can’t say much more, just that he’s someone you have to experience for yourself because every show is a unique, interactive and fun encounter.
Support acts on the night are Dagger Soundsystem, DJ Ratzi, and Drymouth (VJ).
