Canadian born B.Traits aka Brianna Price will be performing in Junk for another Bang Bang vs HGR-MGR showdown. She has been DJing since at least 2004, namely in Vancouver at one of the longest running drum and bass club nights in the city. This residency brought her bookings throughout North America and from across the Atlantic too. In 2007 ShyFX, founder of Digital Soundboy, recruited B.Traits and christened her the first Digital Sound Girl.
Fast forward to 2012 and in April B.Traits’ debut single “Fever”, featuring vocals from Elisabeth Troy, found a place in the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. From there she went on to host BBC Radio 1’s “In New DJs We Trust” show once a month. Then, continuing to climb the ladder, in September 2012 she began hosting another BBC Radio 1 show (simulcasted on 1Xtra) but this time weekly. As of right now she is covering Annie Mac’s prime-time Friday evening and Sunday shows while Annie Mac is on maternity leave. Quite a story, huh!
Recently on her BBC Radio 1 shows B.Traits has been championing music from several Southampton-based producers, much of which has either been released by (or in association with) Bang Bang Recordings. Examples include Hustla’s Anthem, Crown Duels’ “We Love This Music“, Cholombian & Morgan Hislop’s “Brittany Murphy“, and South Royston’s “Another Night“. Incidentally, South Royston are one of the support acts for this B.Traits show.
Also on the lineup is Juma MC, B.Traits’ MC of choice for her recent tours. Juma MC has his routes set in the late ’90s drum and bass and jungle scenes, where he was known for crafting hip-hop influenced pieces over higher tempo sounds. He has held residencies at well established UK events such as Bedlam and Hospitality and will be hosting at Outlook Festival later this year.
Next on the lineup is one of Southampton’s most versatile and talented DJs BITR8, practically a household name for the club-goers of Southampton. BITR8 aka Chris Stemp is a resident for Bang Bang as well as Mistajam’s “Speakerbox” imprint where he presents the weekly Speakerbox show on Ministry of Sound Radio. Chris’ DJ sets cover a broad spectrum of dance music and often feature live bootlegs. You can hear one of those bootlegs below; Chris has put it online ahead of a new original tune that he’s produced (or so rumour has it).
If you remember from earlier, this is a collaboration gig between Bang Bang and HGR-MGR. As such, George Francis & Jacuzé will be warming up for B.Traits. Also on the lineup are South Royston (mentioned above) and Ape Like, who’s just put out a tasty edit of Stardust’s classic “Music Sounds Better With You”.
