Roundup: May Bank Holiday Weekend in Southampton


Here’s a roundup of some of the happenings across Southampton this bank holiday weekend. More details for most of the events given below can be found via our Events section. There are no doubt many things missing, please contact us if you’d like to see an event added.


Drum and bass brand Hospitality will be at The Warehouse with Fred V & Grafix, S.P.Y, Danny Byrd, and Lynx. Local duo Gerra & Stone are also on the bill, alongside Judda, Fin Evansm, and J Skeptik. Dynamite MC, LowQui, Joe Raygun, and Shakes will be hosting. Room 2 will be hosted by local crews Pressure Plate Audio and SoSound with Photon, CA:RO, Chemical Case, Ewok, HØST, Losing Truths, and MC Neka. There are a few advance tickets still available for purchase and there will be a small allocation on the doors from 10pm. The night will run through till 6am, more information can be found here.

UNIT have a soundclash scheduled: Lose Your Head vs ArtFormz. Lose Your Head runs every Friday at UNIT, pushing a wide range of bass-orientated music. This week the Southampton-based grime collective ArtFormz will be taking over. Expect grime, hip-hop, garage, and dubstep. Zha, Gas, LS6, Pelikann, and Luna Grooves will also be DJing. Entry is £3 before 11:30pm on the guestlist.

RoXX will be hosting Caught In The Middle of A 3-Way Mix, a collaboration between DJ Food, DJ Cheeba & DJ Moneyshot. Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix remixes, recreates and reimagines the Beastie Boys’ sophomore album, Paul’s Boutique. The three DJs will be on stage together, working across 4 decks to create a live rendition of the mixtape. The show is presented by Orange Rooms and support will come from Stevo, Envious Mind & Naturalbeatz. Tickets are available as part of RoXX’s Weekend Pass.

Friday will also see Pulse Festival kicking off. Situated in Totton (just on the western edge of Southampton) the festival runs from Friday to Sunday and will be headlined by Mr Scruff, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, The Correspondents, and Science of Eight Limbs. There’s a Hot Creations garden party taking place at Sobar, featuring no less than 6 DJs from the label roster. The daytime part (2pm-10pm at Sobar) will be headlined by Patrick ToppingGreg Pidcock, and Toyboy & Robin. Support will come from High Tide residents and regulars Boulé & Steve Knight, Gary Bennetton & Dan Reid, and ThemAgen. Come 10pm the party will move to The Warehouse, where Richy AhmedMiguel CampbellwAFF, and Toyboy & Robin (2nd set) will be playing music right through till 6am. There are a few all-day, daytime only, and warehouse only tickets still available to buy online.

The Mouse Outfit will be performing a live show at RoXX, accompanied by Dr Syntax and Sparkz. The Mouse Outfit are an 8-piece hip-hop collective and will be supported by Jester Jacobs. Tickets are available and can be purchased as part of RoXX’s Weekend Pass (three shows for £10, and seeing as The Mouse Outfit gig on its own costs £8 the deal seems pretty good).

TRiPP‘s regular house and techno night dancetripp will be taking place as usual in the main room of the club. Residents Carlington, Ronnie Spiteri, Moda Soul, and Jody Hannan will be on the decks all night. Meanwhile in the downstairs room, REWIND will be in full swing with K1R3Y, Gavin Foord, and Lee Murray bashing out an old school tune selection packed with 90s and 00s uk garage, rnb, hip-hop, and more.

It’s Reggae Sunday at Orange Rooms with an all day Caribbean festival. The Headsessions DJs will be spinning throughout the day, alongside Maka Foundation, B1, and Bossman. Things kick off at 2pm and there will be a full Caribbean food menu & BBQ, plus Jamaican drinks deals. Later in the evening Orange Rooms have a special edition RETOX with Mallorca Rocks resident DJ K1R3Y. They’ll be giving away a pair of tickets to Ibiza Rocks, too.

Over at The Saints PubThe Time Tunnel presents SUNDANCE 2, a day of proper deep house, tech house, and all things old skool. They’ve even got a silent disco planned! Headline acts K-Klass (with live PA), Graeme Park, and Slipmatt will be playing alongside a plethora of local DJs. It’ll be running from 1pm till midnight and then there will be an official after-party at TRiPP. As with Saturday, the downstairs room at TRiPP will be hosted by REWIND.

SWAMP81‘s Paleman will be at RoXX on Sunday, presented by the club’s HEAVY.DJ brand. ThemAgen, George Francis & Jakuzé, Levi Jules, and F-Stop are also lined up. Tickets are available online.

Festibelly will be stopping off in Southampton. Taking place at Orange Rooms (free entry), the event is party of their Local series and will feature Laurel, The Rising, Luke Ferre, and Owen Hackett. More information here.
