The brain-child of Nic Fanciulli, The Social seeks to bring the Ibiza experience to the UK. Situated in Mote Park, the former location of Radio 1’s Big Weekend, this one day festival welcomes some of the DJ world’s most prestigious names to Maidstone in Kent, on 12th Spetember. Among the long list of acclaimed DJs playing you’ll find the likes of Richie Hawtin, Jamie Jones, and Joris Voorn.
Sharing it’s name with Southampton’s newest venue, The Social’s foremost focus is to become the UK’s go-to festival for the best house and techno. As far as festivals go, The Social is a relative new kid on the block. Fanciulli along with family and friends at his label Saved Records only launched the festival in 2013. However, it’s a delight to see a festival curated by a DJ as Fanciulli’s inside knowledge has been invaluable in ensuring that the experience is spot on for both punters and artists alike. It’s no surprise then that the day fest has sold out on both occasions so far, and looks set to do so again this year.
Festival goers can expect to see Richie Hawtin heading up his own techno barn, whilst Seth Troxler spins vinyl in a bamboo forrest. Taking the bespoke festival experience to the next level, The Social has big plans for its third year and plenty of surprises in store. The latest additions to the line-up are a treat in themselves. Sasha, Route 94 and Joy Orbison join the ranks of the seasoned house and techno DJs that make up The Social 2015.
Dark and enthralling, Rødhåd’s sets range from the melancholy to the hypnotic. With a penchant for deep, atmospheric techno that’ll transport you to some far flung corner of the future, it’s no surprise that the German DJ and producer named his clubnight Dystopian. The acclaimed clubnight, at which Rødhåd plays resident, incidentally debuted in the UK in London earlier this year. The Berlin native began his career organising open air parties, so rest assured he’ll know precisely how to deliver at The Social.
Claiming DJ of The Year from Mixmag and Best Producer from DJ Awards Ibiza after a breakthrough year in Ibiza with his weekly Neon Nights parties at Sankeys during 2012, Solomun has revealed himself to be a force to be reckoned with. Raised in Hamburg, Solomun’s finesse as a tastemaker has secured him a coveted Radio 1 Residency. If you were in any further doubt, his upcoming release, Zora demonstrates his production skills at their best, as glistening synths soar over a relentless drum beat, the track builds with restraint before unleashing a roaring crescendo.
