Preview: Mutiny Festival 2015

1
Mutiny Festival started life last year as Mutiny in the Park, Portsmouth’s first dedicated dance music festival. The event has now outgrown its original site in Victoria Park and has migrated to nearby Chichester. Starting up with a campers only party on Friday 17th, Mutiny Festival boasts two full days of music on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of July.
Expanding from a one-day festival last year into a camping weekender, the festival located just outside Portsmouth sees a host of commercial and underground acts descend on Chichester’s Fontwell Park. Headliners Knife Party and Rebel Sound will be supported by live performances from frequent chart scalers, Katy B, Labrinth and Maverick Sabre, as well as DJ sets from some of the UKs most sought after names including Hannah Wants, DJ EZ, and Gorgon City.

Saturdays headliner Knife Party, consists of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, core members of the now defunct Pendulum. The duo’s side project has taken on a life of its own as numerous club tracks have found mainstream success, including Internet Friends, Bonfire and LRAD. Late last year the duo released their début album, Abandon Ship, suitably in keeping with Mutiny’s seafaring theme. Considering the duo’s busy international tour schedule and infrequent UK gigs, securing Knife Party indicates that Mutiny really mean business with their second outing.

DJ supergroup, and Red Bull Culture Clash winners, Rebel Sound, will be headlining the Sunday. Consisting of Chase & Status, MC Rage, Shy FX, and David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan, the ensemble are all in influential in their own right, each justifiable main stage acts. Expect the best in bass, reggae and dub for a suitably energetic finale to the festival.

Mutiny sports a balanced lineup which includes some of BBC Radio 1’s finest in the form of Mistajam and Toddla T. South Coast D’N’B promoters, Supercharged are hosting their own arena, featuring Shogun boss Friction, and veteran Zinc who will be performing a jungle set, along with other recently announced names, Adam F, Goldie, Kove Matrix & Future Bound, Stormzy, Big Narstie and Artful Dodger.

There will be special guest DJ appearances in the festival’s VIP area which promises a full-on luxury experience with a sky bar, a prime view of the main stage, and the essential festival feature, hot tubs. Mutiny will also feature a fairground, 4000 capacity silent disco and a colour festival.

SOTONIGHT Recommends:

Rebel Sound: Sunday’s headliner Rebel Sound are a rare treat for the South Coast. The Supergroup fended off stiff competition from US hip-hop collective A$AP Mob, UK Grime Royalty Boy Better Know and the might of Stone Love’s soundsystem. Rebel Sound are currently gearing up for a big summer, rolling out their performance across the UK starting with an appearance in London next month as part of Red Bull Music Academy’s UK Tour. A team up of this caliber doesn’t come around often so be sure to catch Rebel Sound live whilst you still can!

Idris Elba: Many will know British actor Idris Elba best as the star of hit TV series’ Luther and The Wire, but many overlook the man’s musical talent. Elba has released a number of well crafted productions and has been known to indulge his passion a bit further taking to the decks at more than a couple of A-list Hollywood afterparties. Suffice to say the man has just as much class on the decks as he does onscreen.
