GBS Parties present:
DR SYNTAX AND PETE CANNON
Dr Syntax has been a well-known face on the UK hip hop scene since he appeared on Foreign Beggars’ ‘Asylum Speakers’ album in 2004. Since then he has released numerous albums (including 2012’s ‘A Slice Of Fried Gold’ with Tom Caruana) and done countless shows worldwide. Recently he has been gaining a whole new level of exposure as frontman for acclaimed Manchester hip hop band The Mouse Outfit, whose debut album ‘Escape Music’ dropped in May and features Syntax heavily.
Blackpool-born Pete Cannon has had an incredibly prolific year, having produced for top UK rap acts such as Dirty Dike, Lunar C and Verb T, a single with Detroit rap legend Guilty Simpson (‘This Year’), releasing numerous projects and even producing a top 10 chart hit for Rizzle Kicks ‘Lost Generation’. You would be hard pressed to find anyone more enthusiastic about music, and on top of this, he has the most elaborate haircut in UK hip hop.
Dr Syntax and Pete Cannon have been touring as an MC and DJ duo since 2010, and they have recorded an album, ‘Killer Combo’, due for release in early 2014.
Both reputed solo artists in their own right, together they combine witty lyricism, gob-smackingly banging beats and general tomfoolery to great effect.
Madame Electrifie is the alter ego of breaks/electro/techno DJ Little Jo, fusing together her love of all things vintage with a love of dirty bass driven music.
Jo has amassed some 10 plus years on the decks, playing some of the UK’s leading venues. She has supported some of the biggest names in electronic music from Annie Nightingale to A Skillz, Krafty Kuts to 808 State, Jon Carter to Elite Force and a host of others- splicing tech-funk and dirty breaks with progressive and techy beats.
Take this experience and introduce the vintage edged sounds of Electro Swing, and some crazy showgirl-clad glitter fuelled antics, and Madame Electrifie is born. It’s the glamour of the 20’s meets the filth of the 00’s, and it’s seen her tear up stages and festivals around the country.
Fusing the best of the 20′s, 30′s and 40′s with the best of the modern age, Madame Electrifie takes swing and vintage sounds and threads them through everything from hip hop, to house, breaks and drum and bass to create a raucous dance floor focused party all with that distinctive driving sound that’s a firm nod to her tech and breaks roots. Its swing meets synth, and big band meets bass- all complete with a pin curl and lashings of vintage fused fun.
GBS resident DJ Quextal has been DJing since 1993, but he only got serious about it in 2007 when he discovered psybreaks and decided to become an evangelist for this new emerging genre. While most famous for his enthusiastic advocacy of psychedelic breakbeats, his musical passions extend to all genres of mind-expanding and evolving trip-music: he plays techno, breaks, progressive trance, glitch-crunk, tech-house, psytrance, drum’n’bass, and more… and specialises in “interstitial” sets of many genres woven together into a single epic journey.
His mixes (always done live on CDJs) are lovingly crafted with great attention to flow and detail, and enhanced with subtle use of DJM effects. With demanding quality standards, a strict “no fillers” policy, and frequent scouting missions for the hottest new and unsigned talent, his mixes and regular NSB and Psymusic radio shows (all downloadable from http://quextal.com/) have attracted a devoted following of loyal fans.
Now forget all that. Just listen.
Loveable Rogue (Electro/swing/breaks/dubstep)
Creator of GBS and resident DJ Loveable Rogue will be smashing out a mix of Breaks, Electro Swing, Dubstep and Electro.
Caos Doble (Electro Swing/Thumping House)
GonnaBeSick residents Caos Doble (AKA Hyped) have been tearing up the dancefloors at our Swing and Bass parties for quite some time now, and will once again be getting the whole crowd jumping with a banging mix of swing and house, cranking it up with some seriously thumping bass.
Just Jus vs Cumberdale
Swing Sessions Supremos, popular local DJs and GonnaBeSick residents Huw and Justin will be taking to the decks again with their own mix of ghetto funk, ghetto dub and electro swing. These guys know good music and never fail to play a wicked set.
